Darling one –

Tonight I have had a beautiful moonlight trip. I went up to see Padre Pio and came back in the moonlight. I turned off my Jeep lights most of the way down the mountain. It was very bright & beautiful. I was all alone and thought how you would have enjoyed being with me. I talked with Padre Pio and he said I need not worry, you will be all right. Your welfare is in his hands. He was very quick in giving an affirmative answer. I hope he is right. The general from Rome was there. He is the head of all the Capuchins and I have known him since last year June. We had a nice visit. He told me he had dinner last week with Bonani, the Italian Govt. head, and he was very discouraged about the possibilities of a sound Italian govt in the near future. Party friction is too strong and there is no way to educate the masses politically. Much harm has been done by the Mussolini set up. Communists, Liberals, Socialists and Democratic groups all feel their way is the only way. Here I have seen groups of school children parade vehemently shouting behind the Communist Red flag, and opposing student groups attempting to break it up. Violence could start very easily.

Darling take care of yourself, and try to do the essential things with as little effort as possible. Get someone to mow the grass. I do not understand not being willing to look after the yard for you. He certainly owes you a little effort, and he is big enough & strong enough to work. If he doesn’t learn to work he will be a sorry mess in a few years.

All my love sweet.

Bill
