William Carrigan to Ramona Carrigan

Ramona my Love –

I did not have the pleasure of a letter from you this day. A box of used sweaters came – the fifth box now. Nothing else in it. I went to Padre’s mass today and received his ever welcome blessing. He is so lovable and he gives me so much attention when I go there. The place may be full of people, but he seems to give me time, asking for me sometimes when I cannot get through the crowd, and sometimes sending for me to see him after mass. We are indeed blessed in the friendship of this holy man. The love he radiates and the simple friendliness he shows brings tears to my eyes nearly every time I go to see him. I’ve asked him to do so many things and I believe he does them as if they were his first concern. And I know that thousands seek him out. Of course many do it out of curiosity, and he recognizes the difference from the first instance.

Darling I am not a holy man and I have many sinful weaknesses, but he seems to not be harsh with me because of my sins. Oh, Darling, I wish you could have the opportunity or opportunities I have, to share my experiences with this great man. I place you at the alter with me in every mass, and you can know him only in this way – but you should feel his presence sometimes for I bring you so close to him – even literally placing you on the alter and asking that you be permitted to join him at the feet of Christ. We need in him in our daily life very much, he can get our petitions before the Lord and look after our needs, even though we do not know what our real needs are sometimes.

Sweetheart, let us draw close to Our Lord and always have Padre Pio as our interpreter and guide in that august court of Heaven. I am sure we cannot do better. Charity and obedience should be our will as shown us by our conscience and all will be well for us. Oh, darling, I love you in a greater love than I ever knew through Padre Pio.

My love is yours,

 Bill
